Shrewsbury Town lead AFC Wimbledon 1-0 at half time thanks to a Liam Lawrence goal in stoppage time.
Tyrone Barnett, Scott Vernon and Jordan Clark all missed the target for Shrewsbury in the opening 10 minutes.
With 16 minutes played, Wimbledon goalkeeper James Shea was stretchered off after clashing with James Collins. He was replaced by 20-year-old debutant Joe McDonnell.
Craig Tanner's shot was deflected wide by Shrewsbury goalkeeper Jayson Leutwiler and David Connolly shot over the bar from the resultant corner.
Lawrence opened the scoring in stoppage time, directing the ball into the bottom left corner after Wimbledon failed to deal with Jermaine Grandison's cross.
