Siena have pulled themselves off the foot of the Serie A table with a narrow 1-0 victory over Pescara at home.
The first chance of the game fell to Ante Vukusic when he forced Siena goalkeeper Gianluca Pegolo into making a good save.
Siena then came close to breaking the deadlock when Alessandro Rosina shot wide when placed in an one-on-one situation with Mattia Perin by a crisp Francesco Bolzoni through-ball.
Just after the half-hour mark Francesco Valiani volleyed home to give Siena the lead.
Pescara could have equalised just before the half-time interval when they were awarded a penalty after Matteo Contini pulled down Vukusic inside his own area. However, the Croatian failed to get his spot kick past Pegolo.
Siena coach Serse Cosmi was then sent to the stands after an altercation with the officials.
Just moments into the second half Pescara goalkeeper Mattia Perin was called into action by Rosin, before Pegolo denied Juan Quintero in the 54th minute.
Both goalkeepers were kept busy for the remainder of the second half, but Pescara's hopes of earning a point disappeared when Marco Capuano and Damiano Zanon were dismissed in the final minutes of the encounter.
