Sochaux have moved out of the Ligue 1 relegation zone thanks to a 1-1 home draw with Lille, despite playing the final 10 minutes with 10 men.
Marvin Martin had the game's first chance, but the Lille player's low volley was deflected away by Loic Poujol.
Dimitri Payet soon had a run on the Sochaux goal but his hesitation at a vital moment gave Carlao the chance to make the interception and clear away the danger.
Poujol denied Payet before Ronny Rodelin shot just wide of the home side's goal.
Lille had goalkeeper Steeve Elana to thank for in the early minutes of the second half when he made a good save to keep out Banana Yaya's header from Ryad Boudebouz's free kick.
The visitors then went ahead just after the hour mark, Benoit Pedretti releasing Nolan Roux to fire past a helpless Simon Pouplin.
However, moments later Sochaux restored parity as Yassin Mikari collected Boudebouz's pass and shot home with ease.
Poujol was sent off in the 79th minute for a second bookable offence, but the hosts held on for a point.
