Sports Mole's analysis of Southampton's 3-1 win over West Ham in the Premier League at Upton Park, where Morgan Schneiderlin scored twice for the Saints.

Southampton came from a goal down to beat West Ham United 3-1 at Upton Park this afteroon.

Mark Noble struck a deflected effort into the bottom corner before Morgan Schneiderlin levelled things up on the stroke of half time.

After the restart, Schneiderlin netted his second after some slack defending from the Hammers at a short corner, and Graziano Pelle sealed the points late on with his first Premier League goal.

Below, Sports Mole dissects the action in a little bit more detail.

Was the result fair?

Most certainly! Southampton were far and away the better side in the second half. The first period was something of a non-entity and they were fortunate to net on the stroke of half time. But, after the break, there was only ever going to be one winner.

West Ham's performance

They had the best chance of the first half through Ricardo Vaz Te, but the Portuguese saw his shot well saved. Other than that chance and their goal, they offered little. Enner Valencia added an injection of pace and power, but Carlton Cole struggled to make any sort of impact up top.

Southampton's performance

They deserve plenty of credit for coming back and securing a win at a difficult away venue. They were fully deserving of their victory this afternoon, and the likes of James Ward-Prowse, Schneiderlin and Pelle impressed.

Sports Mole's man of the match

Morgan Schneiderlin: Pelle runs him close, but Schneiderlin deserves it. The France international has been linked with a move away and he himself has stated his desire to move on, but fair play to the midfielder for keeping his mind on the job and netting two crucial goals for his side.

Biggest gaffe

Dusan Tadic took a heavy touch on the edge of the box as he lined up a shot, and he ended up clumsily booting Mark Noble which left the Hammers man in need of treatment. Although, West Ham's defending for the second goal takes the award. They simply fell asleep and it cost them dearly.

Referee performance

Not many contentious decisions for the official, and Mike Dean did a decent enough job of keeping order in check. Just three bookings for the experienced referee to dish out.

What next?

West Ham: The Hammers face a tough trip to Hull City on Monday September 15.

Southampton: The Saints host Newcastle United on Saturday September 13.
