Steven Davis: 'Southampton must finish strongly'

Southampton midfielder Steven Davis urges the team not to "peter out" in their final matches of the season, with a place in Europe still up for grabs.

Steven Davis has warned that Southampton must be careful that they do not "peter out" in their final games of the Premier League season.

The Saints, who host former manager Mauricio Pochettino's Tottenham Hotspur at St Mary's tomorrow, have a chance to secure a place in Europe next season.

The midfielder told the club's website: "I feel we've been unlucky against Spurs recently. Overall our performances have been at quite a good level. But for whatever reason we haven't been able to see through the game and get the right result. Saturday presents us with an opportunity to put that right and hopefully we can do it this time.

"It's great to be in a position where we're challenging for a European spot at this stage. We've had a great season so far but we don't want it to peter out. It's about seeing it through and Saturday is an opportunity to pick up points against one of our nearest rivals.

"We know how Mauricio works and how he sets up his team, hopefully that will be an advantage to us. We enjoyed a good time under him but we're confidence going into the game."

Ronald Koeman's side sit seventh in the table ahead of the match, just a point behind Tottenham.
