Gaston Ramirez has revealed his determination to impress Ronald Koeman after making a rare appearance for Southampton at the weekend.
It appeared that the Uruguayan was not a part of Koeman's plans when the Saints boss arrived at the start of last season, with Ramirez being sent out on loan to Hull City.
Despite falling down the pecking order over the past year, Ramirez came off the bench to play a key role in setting up Sadio Mane's equaliser in the 1-1 draw with Liverpool on Sunday.
"I felt happy to come on the pitch because I don't remember the last time I played for Southampton in the league," the 24-year-old told the club's website.
"It was a really good stadium and a big game. I'm working hard to get that chance, and the chance came.
"Everyone at the club knows what I'm doing. I'm very happy to stay here and work for Southampton and fight for my place."
Ramirez could be handed a starting spot when Southampton meet Aston Villa in the League Cup on Wednesday night.
