Ronald Koeman: 'We didn't play well today'

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman reveals his disappointment with his side despite their 3-1 win over Swansea City.

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman has insisted that his side 'didn't play well' despite recording a 3-1 victory over Swansea City this afternoon.

Goals from Virgil van Dijk, Dusan Tadic and Sadio Mane had the Saints three ahead before the Swans pulled one back late on through Gylfi Sigurdsson's penalty.

However, despite securing three points that moves his side up to ninth place in the Premier League table, Koeman was far from happy with Southampton's performance.

"It was not a very good performance today. The way we played is not the level we expect. But much more now today than normally we were clinical. That was the difference between Swansea and Southampton," Koeman told BBC Sport.

"You need good communication in the team but we had some problems. They were allowed four or five good shots from outside the area.

"At 3-0 up we should have dominated more in the last 30 minutes. We were too much in mind to defend the result rather than go and score more. I like to win and play good football."

Southampton are next in action when they travel to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea next Saturday.
