Southampton boss Ronald Koeman has admitted that he is disappointed with his side's 1-1 pre-season draw with Espanyol.
The Spanish side took the lead through Salva Sevilla, but Jay Rodriguez equalised with 10 minutes left for Koeman's men.
He told the club's official website: "I'm not really happy. I understand it is a friendly between the two European games and maybe it was a little bit too hot.
"But we started very sloppy. During the game it was a little bit better but it was not what I expect. The intensity was too little and that's a mental question.
"What I mentioned before, it's difficult because it's between two games against Vitesse. A normal human reaction after Thursday is always a little bit less focus. But it's also a case that maybe, we hope, that we will have more weeks, Thursday and Sunday, that's good preparation."
Southampton play their first Premier League game of the season against Newcastle United on Sunday.
