Southampton and West Bromwich Albion remain winless this season in the Premier League having played out a goalless draw at St Mary's this afternoon.

The Saints looked particularly lively in the first-half through Dusan Tadic, although the summer signing failed to beat Ben Foster with his close-range effort 10 minutes before the interval.

West Brom created the best opening of the second half through substitute Brown Ideye, but Fraser Forster rushed out to deny the striker when he was played through on goal.

Here Sports Mole takes a look at who impressed for either side.

SOUTHAMPTON

Goal

Fraser Forster: Solid performance from the big-money summer signing. The England international thwarted Ideye who was in on goal with 20 minutes remaining, showing that he is worth his pricetag for the big moments alone. (8/10)

Defence

Nathaniel Clyne: The full-back did well enough, and can be happy with this clean sheet following on from his goal against Liverpool last time out. (7/10)

Maya Yoshida: Other than being nutmegged by Ideye in the game's biggest opening, Yoshida stood strong at the back for the Saints. (7/10)

Jose Fonte: Skippered his side and remained resolute throughout. He produced a brilliant block from Graham Dorrans early on in the game. (7/10)

Ryan Bertrand: Linked up particularly well with Tadic down the left in the first half. Looked to get early balls into the box when in possession. (7/10)

Midfield

Morgan Schneiderlin: His normal energetic self in the middle. Broke up play to begin counter-attacks, and did not have his head turned by constant transfer talk. (8/10)

Victor Wanyama: Much like his central-midfield partner, Wanyama broke up play but failed to get forward as much as Schneiderlin. Probably through instructions, rather than choice. (7/10)

Steven Davis: Struggled to get into the game in the first half, and was withdrawn at the interval to make way for Shane Long (5/10)

James Ward-Prowse: Was not his finest game by any means, but he very nearly opened the scoring with his free kick drive which clattered the post. (7/10)

Dusan Tadic: Fielded out wide, Tadic was the game's star man with countless dangerous crosses into the box. Needs to work on his shooting on the basis of today, though. (8/10)

Attack

Graziano Pelle The striker's CV highlights that he can find the net wherever he plays, but today just was not his day. Struggled to get on the end of numerous chances, but with more games he will surely come good. (6/10)

Substitutes

Shane Long: Could not find a way through against one of his former sides after coming on, although he was not given the same service that his teammates enjoyed in the first half. (6/10)

Jack Cork: Did well to keep play ticking over, but was not given enough time to make his mark on the game in a true attacking sense. (6/10)

WEST BROM

Goal

Ben Foster: Was caught in the middle of nowhere in the first half when Tadic knocked the ball beyond him, but also produced a strong save from the same opponent in the first half. (8/10)

Defence

Andre Wisdom: Could have done more, but created a chance for his side in the opening minutes which Fonte did well to block. (7/10)

Craig Dawson: Can be happy with this clean sheet and a fairly solid showing at St Mary's. (7/10)

Jonas Olsson: Produced a superb block in the first half to deny Tadic, which was pretty much the only time he truly had to up his game. (7/10)

Sebastien Pocognoli: Arguably West Brom's best player before limping off through injury. Linked up well with Brunt down the left. (8/10)

Midfield

Graham Dorrans: One of the visiting side's livelier players today. Had a couple of shots blocked, and created Ideye's chance on 70 minutes. (8/10)

Craig Gardner: Booked for a challenge on Cork so was restricted with his tackling after that point. Almost found a way through with a long-range piledriver from a free kick. (7/10)

Yousouff Mulumbu: Broke up play well to allow the more advanced players to get on with their game. (7/10)

Chris Brunt: Looked good out wide, but other than his early penalty shout did not create too much. (7/10)

Attack

Saido Berahino: Could not add to his two-goal haul from last weekend, and lacked discipline on occasions. That said, his interplay with Victor Anichebe at one point in the first half was the contest's best passage of play. (7/10)

Victor Anichebe: Failed to convert any crosses into the box. Picked up a knock which he struggled to shake off and was replaced early in the second half. (6/10)

Substitutes

Brown Ideye: As soon as he is fit to start he could be a real threat for the Baggies. Game's best chance fell to him which he was unlucky to convert, but should have done better with a previous back-post header. (8/10)

Jason Davidson: Was not as lively as the man he replaced, but the Australian international tried to push forward on occasions. (6/10)

Stephane Sessegnon: Was given just three minutes of game time, so understandably failed to make his mark on the goalless draw. (5/10)
