Southampton have beaten French side Evian TG 1-0 in a pre-season match this evening.
The first 20 minutes was an even affair, with both sides creating decent platforms without really testing the opposition's keepers.
It was Southampton who had the first real chance of the game, and it came when club-record signing Jay Rodriguez rose highest to draw a good save from the Evian shot-stopper.
The Saints began to take control of the match, and came close to breaking the deadlock through Jason Puncheon's effort that cannoned back off the crossbar.
They wouldn't have to wait long to see a goal though, as Puncheon, bouyed by that earlier chance, fired in a low shot having been set up by Morgan Schneiderlin.
Southampton made 11 changes at the break, but this didn't seem to disrupt their rhythm too much as Richard Chaplow forced the Evian keeper into another save soon after the restart.
Evian had a rare half-chance midway through a quiet second half but Daniel Wass couldn't convert from the edge of the penalty area.
Billy Sharp then saw his effort well saved before the game sauntered out, giving the Saints a comfortable win.
