Southampton moved to the top of the Championship after dispatching Derby County by four goals this afternoon.
The Saints began strongly and were soon ahead through defender Hooiveld, who notched his second in consecutive games by bundling home Danny Fox's corner.
Southampton continued to control the match until half time, as Jamie Ward's low effort for the visitors provided the only scare.
Half-time substitute Aaron Martin, who had replaced Hooiveld, converted a similar goal to the first by also finding the net from a Fox corner to double the lead, before Adam Lallana sealed the points with a third by sidefooting a volley home after another Fox cross.
Another substitute, Tadanari Lee, made it four 15 minutes from time with a bullet effort from the edge of the area.
The Saints move two points clear of West Ham, who have two games in hand, while Derby drop two places to 15th.
