Victor Wanyama scores the only goal of the game to fire Southampton to a 1-0 victory over 10-man Swansea City as Wilfried Bony is sent off for Garry Monk's side.

Southampton secured their third win in a row in the Premier League as a strike from Victor Wanyama guided them to a 1-0 victory over 10-man Swansea City in a match where Wilfried Bony saw red for the home side.

The home side threatened in the early stages as Wayne Routledge raided down the left and hit a cross to the back post that evaded the head of Bony. However, the ball fell to Nathan Dyer, but he scuffed his attempted volley.

Swansea were dominating possession and Gylfi Sigurdsson tested the handling abilities of Saints keeper Fraser Forster with an effort from distance, but the England man made a comfortable save.

Garry Monk's side came within inches of taking the lead as Sigurdsson released the run of Routledge down the left who raided into the box, but his right-footed shot cannoned off the bar and went over.

The home side continued to threaten and went closer still when Bony rose highest in the penalty area to power Sigurdsson's corner at goal, but his header was cleared off the line by Ryan Bertrand.

Swansea were reduced to 10 men just before the break when Bony was given a second yellow card for a reckless challenge on Maya Yoshida as he hacked the defender down from behind.

After the break, the Saints tried to use their man advantage to take the lead and came close when Dusan Tadic fired an effort at goal from distance and his shot took a deflection off Dyer and went just over the bar.

The visitors looked to up the ante and Nathaniel Clyne showed a great burst of pace to get down the right wing and his cross found Graziano Pelle in the area, but he glanced his header wide of the post.

Southampton finally made their pressure pay in the 80th minute, when Pelle found the run of Wanyama in the box and the midfielder poked the ball past Lukasz Fabianski.
