Southampton and Newcastle United have emerged as two of the leading contenders to sign Feyenoord midfielder Jordy Clasie, according to reports.
There are concerns that another impressive season from the Saints could see key players leave for the second successive summer, with Nathaniel Clyne and Morgan Schneiderlin both linked with exits in recent weeks.
Newcastle are also under pressure to improve their squad when the transfer window reopens as fans continue to voice their displeasure about the direction of the club under Mike Ashley.
According to The Mirror, both sides are considering a move for Clasie and Saints are looking at the Dutchman as a possible replacement for Schneiderlin.
The report claims that Newcastle are prepared to offer Vurnon Anita in exchange for the 23-year-old, who could cost as much as £10m this summer.
Clasie, who played at last year's World Cup with Holland, has made 31 appearances in all competitions this season.
