Southend United manager Phil Brown has hailed his side's character after they beat Wycombe Wanderers in the League Two playoff final this evening.
The game went to extra time after a goalless 90 minutes, and it looked as though Wycombe would win thanks to a Daniel Bentley own goal.
However, Joe Pigott equalised for Southend and sent the game to a penalty shootout, which they won 7-6.
Brown told Sky Sports News: "The young lads and the old lads showed a lot of character to win the game. To get the equaliser in the 122nd minute shows what we're about.
"We've got to dust ourselves down in the summer and come back in League One. That's what we set out to achieve at the start of the season and that's what we've done today."
Brown previously managed in League One with Preston North End.
