Spain midfielder Andres Iniesta has admitted that Italy deserved to defeat his side following the Azzurri's 2-0 win in the last-16 fixture at Euro 2016.
Giorgio Chiellini and Graziano Pelle found the net as the Italians set up a quarter-final meeting with Germany.
"Italy were the most effective side in the decisive moments of the match," the Barcelona midfielder told Telecincoes.
"In the second half we dominated and did our part, but paid for the fact we were chasing the game. We have to accept this disappointing result. Italy were the most effective side in the decisive moments of the match."
Spain's defeat to Italy marks their first loss to the Azzurri in a competitive match since 1994.
