Vicente del Bosque: 'We must remain realistic'

Spain boss Vicente del Bosque admits that it may take time for his "very young" squad to challenge again at the top level of international football.

Spain boss Vicente del Bosque has admitted that it may take time for his side to return to their previous level.

La Roja are still the reigning European Champions, but lost their World Cup crown to Germany in Brazil this summer, failing to make it out of the group stages in the process.

Wholesale changes to the squad have since been made and Del Bosque has said that the national team must move "step-by-step".

"This group has to go step-by-step. We cannot think of going to win the European Championships right now. It's very difficult to make wholesale changes to a squad, especially when the vast majority of them are very young," Del Bosque told reporters at a press conference.

Spain face Macedonia in their first Euro 2016 qualifier this evening.
