Early goals from Carlos Martins and Guilherme Siqueira earned a valuable 2-1 victory for Granada at home to fellow strugglers Sporting Gijon.
It was Martins who struck first, converting an acute free kick from the left-hand side after three minutes.
Siqueira then doubled the home side's advantage after 24 minutes.
A neat exchange with Dani Benitez down the left created some space for the Brazilian to run into and he fired past Juan Pablo in goal.
Adrian Colunga grabbed one back for the visitors in the 90th minute with a right-footed shot into the top left-hand corner.
Martins was shown a red card late on for Granada but Sporting Gijon were unable to make the advantage count and it was the home side who gained ground in the race to beat the drop.
