Sporting Lisbon recorded a first victory in Group G with a 4-2 triumph over Schalke 04 on Wednesday night.

Naby Sarr, Jefferson and Nani handed Sporting a 3-1 lead after Islam Slimani's own goal had given Schalke the lead in the Portuguese capital.

Dennis Aogo fired home from a tight angle to boost Schalke's hopes late on, but Sporting's win was secured in stoppage time when Slimani sprinted clear to slot home his side's fourth of the evening.

Goal

Rui Patricio: The Sporting shot-stopper may have felt he could have kept out Slimani's own goal, but he improved well to make a couple of good saves in the second half. (6/10)

Defence

Cedric Soares: The 23-year-old defender has received plenty of praise for his form this season, and he put in another impressive display in this victory. He was always eager to get forward, but never put a foot wrong at the back. (8/10)

Naby Sarr: Played a key role in the absence of the suspended Mauricio. Dominant in the air as he kept Klaas-Jan Huntelaar quiet and he also managed to register his first goal for the club at the other end. (7/10)

Paulo Oliveira: Solid throughout both on and off the ball as he marshalled the defence well next to Sarr. (6/10)

Jefferson: Excellent in attack and defence as he linked play well with the creative members of the squad. Scored Sporting's second with a stunning strike from the edge of the box. (7/10)

Midfield

William Carvalho: Typically combative in midfield as he won countless number of 50/50 challenges in the centre of the pitch. Neat and tidy in possession without taking too many risks. (7/10)

Joao Mario: The midfielder was always eager to get forward whenever he could as he benefited from Carvalho's dominant display. Pressed the ball well throughout to make life difficult for Schalke. (6/10)

Adrien Silva: Unable to make the same impact as he did in the reverse fixture when he found the net twice, but avoided making any mistakes for the hosts. (6/10)

Carlos Mane: The youngster started on the right wing, but he threatened more when cutting in to receive the ball in the centre of the pitch. Very lively, despite being guilty of a poor end product at times. (7/10)

Nani: Brilliant display from the winger. He popped up all over the pitch to start attacks for his side and thoroughly deserved to get on the scoresheet in the second half. (8/10)

Attack

Islam Slimani: Probably his side's second best player behind Nani. Chased down lost causes all night after inadvertently heading into his own net. A great outlet for his side, and took his goal well instoppage time. (8/10)

Substitutes

Andre Carrillo: Unfortunate not to start, but performed superbly in a 25-minute appearance after coming off the bench. Threatened with his pace on the right and delivered the perfect cross to set up Nani for Sporting's third goal. (7/10)

Oriol Rossel: Kept it simple in the closing stages as Sporting wrapped up the wing. (5/10)

Diego Capel: The Spanish winger barely had a touch of the ball after being sent on in the 89th minute. (4/10)

SCHALKE

Goal

Ralf Fahrmann: Produced a couple of brilliant saves in the first half to keep out the hosts, and had little chance of stopping any of the four goals. (6/10)

Defence

Atsuto Uchida: Uncharacteristically poor with his final product when he did get forward, and struggled to keep tabs on Nani and Mane. (5/10)

Benedikt Howedes: Locked in an intriguing battle for Slimani for long spells of the match, but was unable to keep the striker from having an impact. (6/10)

Dennis Aogo: Kept his composure to fire home a half-volley late on, but his defensive play was poor. Too often caught out of position when Sporting's midfielders ventured forward. (6/10)

Christian Fuchs: Lucky not to be sent off after making a number of fouls following a yellow card. Hurt by Sporting's pace in attack, before being removed with an ankle injury in the second half. (5/10)

Midfield

Marco Hoger: The midfielder struggled to get involved in the game as the likes of Carvalho and Silva dominated for the hosts. Very few positives to take from the game. (4/10)

Roman Neustadter: One of the few Schalke players who seemed to relish the physical battle, but he couldn't drive his side forward. (6/10)

Max Meyer: A rare bright spark for the visitors. Looked after the ball in possession and he was often the most creative player for Schalke. Surprisingly taken off in the 65th minute. (7/10)

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting: Used his pace well to earn space on the wings in the first half, but his final ball was poor throughout the night. (6/10)

Chinedu Obasi: Much like Choupo-Moting, his end product was disappointing. Drifted in and out of the game, and missed a great chance to equalise when Sporting were leading 2-1. (5/10)

Attack

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar: Difficult night for the Dutch striker. In truth, he was given very little service by his teammates as the Sporting defence performed impressively to ensure he did not get a sniff at goal. (4/10)

Substitutes

Kevin-Prince Boateng: Returned from an ankle injury to replace Meyer, but offered very little as an attacking option in the closing stages. (4/10)

Sidney Sam: Lively on the ball, and he tested Patricio with a good effort from the edge of the box. Faded when Sporting scored their third goal. (5/10)

Jan Kirchhoff: Replaced the injured Fuchs on the left side of the defence, and was given a difficult time by the pace of Carrillo. (3/10)
