How Tottenham Hotspur could line up against Manchester City

Ahead of the Champions League quarter-final second leg between Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City, Sports Mole looks at how Spurs could line up.

Tottenham Hotspur hold a slim advantage over Manchester City ahead of Wednesday evening's Champions League quarter-final second leg at the Etihad Stadium.

The Lilywhites' 1-0 win in their new home last week came at a cost, though, as leading goalscorer Harry Kane suffered a season-ending injury and Dele Alli also fractured his hand.

That did not hold Tottenham back at the weekend as they cruised to a 4-0 win over the Premier League's bottom side Huddersfield Town, and they are now looking to complete the job against City to continue their European adventure.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how Mauricio Pochettino could set out his side against the English champions.

Out: Harry Kane (ankle)
Doubtful: Dele Alli (hand), Eric Dier (hip), Harry Winks (groin), Serge Aurier (thigh), Erik Lamela (thigh), Fernando Llorente (knock)

Pochettino is expected to go with Son Heung-min through the middle in the absence of Kane, especially now that Llorente is carrying a knock.

Lucas Moura's hat-trick against Huddersfield at the weekend may have altered Pochettino's plans slightly, though he can be used in a slightly deeper position.

That depends on what formation the visitors intend to go with at the Etihad Stadium. Spurs used a four-man backline in the reverse fixture but could easily revert to a five-man defence here, as they did against Huddersfield.

Dier, Aurier and Lamela all appear certain to miss out for the Lilywhites, who must also factor in a league trip to City three days after this European tie.
