Mauricio Pochettino: Tottenham Hotspur "deserved more" against AS Monaco

Mauricio Pochettino fails to hide his disappointment after seeing Tottenham Hotspur fail to learn their lesson when conceding two sloppy goals against AS Monaco.

Mauricio Pochettino has insisted that Tottenham Hotspur "deserved more" from their Champions League meeting with AS Monaco, but conceded his side were the victims of their own downfall as they slipped to a 2-1 defeat.

The Lilywhites found themselves two goals down with a little over half an hour played at Wembley Stadium - Bernando Silva capitalising on an Erik Lamela error to open the scoring and Thomas Lemar firing home after the hosts failed to clear a cross.

Pochettino was disappointed by the manner in which Spurs threw the game away in front of a record home crowd for an English side in the competition, but was eager to take some positives from the improved second-half display.

"We conceded a goal after 16 minutes that, at this level and in football, you cannot concede," he told BT Sport. "We conceded the second in the same circumstances as the first.

"We improved in the second half and had chances to win the game but after conceding the first they started to play comfortably with the ball and with calmness.

"They had only two shots on target and scored twice. We feel very disappointed with the result. We deserved more but you cannot concede like we did."

Spurs, who had started the season without defeat from their opening four games, are back in Premier League action on Sunday afternoon when taking on Sunderland at White Hart Lane.
