Jermain Defoe has said that he is "delighted" to equal Tottenham Hotspur's European goalscoring record.
Defoe's goal in their 2-0 win over Sheriff Tiraspol in the Europa League on Thursday was his 22nd for the club in continental competition – equalling Martin Chivers's record.
Defoe told the club's official website: "It was a great moment. I was delighted to see it go in because I didn't really have that many chances.
"As soon as Nacer Chadli squared it to me I thought 'relax and get a good contact', and I was delighted to see it go in.
"It's great to equal the record and I'd love to break it at White Hart Lane, that would be great."
Manager Andre Villas-Boas has backed his forward to go on and become the record holder outright.
