Crystal Palace have recorded a 2-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in Sunday's FA Cup fourth round tie at Selhurst Park.

First-half goals from Connor Wickham and Andros Townsend proved to be the difference, while Kieran Trippier missed a penalty for Spurs just before the half-time whistle.

Palace now take their place in the last-16 draw - which will be held on Monday - while Spurs have been dumped out of two cup competitions in less than 72 hours.

Mauricio Pochettino made a number of changes to his side following the quick turnaround from the EFL Cup semi-final with Chelsea on Thursday night, and the visitors would have been content with enjoying plenty of early possession.

However, Palace went ahead with their first attack. Jeffrey Schlupp powered past Davinson Sanchez before seeing a shot well saved by Paulo Gazzaniga, but the rebound fell to Wickham who tapped home for his first goal since November 2016.

Lucas Moura tried to get Spurs going at the other end with a long-range effort which just cleared the crossbar, and Patrick van Aanholt saw a strike from a similar distance at the other end saved by Gazzaniga.

Spurs were off the pace and Pochettino would have wanted to get his side back in the changing room as soon as possible, but Palace were gifted an opportunity to double their advantage soon after the half-hour mark.

Kyle Walker-Peters inexplicably stuck out a hand to prevent Wickham winning a high ball in the penalty area, and Townsend stepped up to send Gazzaniga the wrong way from 12 yards out.

Townsend should have made it three soon afterwards only for Gazzaniga to keep out his first-time strike from 12 yards, and Spurs should have found a way to halve the deficit before half time.

However, soon after Georges-Kevin N'Koudou was denied from close range by Julian Speroni, Spurs missed a penalty as Trippier sent his effort from 12 yards wide of the target.

Pochettino introduced Erik Lamela at the break and Spurs immediately went onto the front foot, although their best opportunity during the opening stages of the second half came from a deflected Fernando Llorente effort which was tipped behind by Speroni.

Llorente was presented with another chance shortly after the hour mark, but the veteran could only poke straight at Speroni from close range after some positive play from Eric Dier.

Palace were offering little in an attacking sense but for all their possession, Spurs were not creating many clear-cut opportunities and another went begging as Trippier sent a volley just wide of the far post.

That continued in the closing stages of the game as Palace comfortably saw out the remaining minutes to claim an impressive win over a team who are now left to focus on the Premier League and Champions League.
