James McClean's first West Bromwich Albion goal cancels out Dele Alli's opener for Tottenham Hotspur as the sides go into the break level at The Hawthorns.

West Bromwich Albion have responded well to an early Tottenham Hotspur goal to equalise and go into half time at 1-1 in the Premier League clash at The Hawthorns.

Spurs came into the match on the longest active unbeaten run in the top flight, dating back 13 matches since the opening-day defeat to Manchester United, but they were put under pressure from the first whistle by the hosts' pressing.

That early pressure should have paid off for Albion when they had a big opportunity to open the scoring after just six minutes, but Salomon Rondon could only fire wide after bursting past Jan Vertonghen to get onto James Morrison's through-ball.

Against the run of play, however, it was the visitors who took the lead as Toby Alderweireld's 60-yard long ball evaded everyone and Dele Alli let the ball drop over his shoulder and volleyed past Boaz Myhill on his return from suspension.

Mauricio Pochettino's side were in control, but just after Alli's cross was whipped off the toes of Harry Kane at the back post, Albion found a leveller out of nothing minutes before the whistle.

A fine move from the home side saw Darren Fletcher played in down the right, and the former Manchester United man whipped in a inch-perfect cross for James McClean to head home his first Albion goal.

The Baggies looked revitalised, and though they were dealt a late blow as Stephane Sessegnon pulled up in the final minute of the first half and had to be replaced by Craig Gardner, they went in level at the break.
