Tottenham Hotspur handed Richarlison injury boost?

Tottenham Hotspur attacker Richarlison is reportedly hopeful of a swift return from injury after leaving the field in tears against Southampton two weekends ago.

Tottenham Hotspur attacker Richarlison has reportedly avoided a serious injury after being forced off in the Lilywhites' recent draw with Southampton.

The Brazil international lasted just seven minutes at St Mary's before being withdrawn in tears - one of four injuries to have occurred in a chaotic first half on the South Coast.

Richarlison subsequently missed Brazil's international friendly defeat to Morocco, and his on-field reaction to his injury sparked fears of another lengthy setback.

The former Everton man has already missed 10 games this season due to a combination of calf and hamstring injuries, but he will seemingly not be in the medical bay for long this time around.

According to the Evening Standard, Richarlison is optimistic that he will return within the next couple of weeks, but Monday's trip to former club Everton comes too soon for him.

The 25-year-old is yet to get off the mark for his new club in the Premier League, setting up four goals in 19 games while scoring twice in the Champions League.

Richarlison memorably labelled his debut season at Tottenham "s***" after he was benched for Spurs' Champions League last-16 second leg against AC Milan, where a 0-0 draw sent the Rossoneri through 1-0 on aggregate.

Antonio Conte - who has since left the club by mutual consent - agreed with Richarlison's assessment of his season, but he denied that the Brazilian's frustrations were with him.

Richarlison is one of seven players currently in the care of Tottenham doctors, with Ben Davies also coming off in the first half of that 3-3 stalemate with Southampton.

The Welsh defender is expected to spend between four and six weeks on the sidelines with a hamstring injury, while fellow left-wing back Ryan Sessegnon is nursing a similar problem.

On the other side of the midfield four, Emerson Royal is set for surgery after picking up a knee injury during Brazil's clash with Morocco, which could sideline him for the rest of the season.

Emerson's layoff leaves Pedro Porro as Tottenham's only recognised option in the right-wing back area, as Djed Spence hones his craft on loan at Ligue 1 outfit Rennes.

Midfield duo Rodrigo Bentancur and Yves Bissouma are also sidelined with ACL and ankle injuries - the former will not return until September at the earliest - and it is unclear when Bissouma might be back.

Finally, first-choice goalkeeper Hugo Lloris is the closest to returning to the first team, having taken part in a behind-closed-doors friendly with Ipswich Town last week after shaking off a knee ligament injury.

An injury-hit Tottenham return to Premier League action under Cristian Stellini sat fourth in the table, just two points clear of Newcastle United, who have two games in hand. body check tags ::
