Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli has insisted that his side "have got to improve" following their 2-1 victory over Newcastle United.
England star Alli's winning header - the third of the game - sealed the victory early in the first half after Joselu had responded to Jan Vertonghen's opening effort.
Speaking to Sky Sports News, Alli said that it was crucial that Spurs opened their Premier League campaign with a win.
"I think it was important to start with three points. It's a long season and we have got to improve but it was a positive start. Last season I scored against Newcastle away and I want to keep improving as a player and as a squad," he said.
"[The World Cup] was a great experience, when you're there you're in your own bubble concentrating on the games, and you don't realise how big it is for the country.
"But since then it has been important to focus on the Premier League again, and make sure I was ready for today. We knew our jobs and we have been playing together for a while. We are all out there fighting and working for each other."
Alli's goal marked the second season in a row in which the midfielder has scored in the opening game.
