Les Ferdinand: 'Andre Villas-Boas agreed to Tottenham Hotspur signings'

Les Ferdinand claims that former Spurs coach Andre Villas-Boas was in full agreement with the club's hierarchy over their summer acquisitions.

Tottenham Hotspur coach Les Ferdinand has refuted the notion that former manager Andre Villas-Boas was not consulted over whom the club signed during the summer.

The Portuguese parted company with the club on Monday following the 5-0 thrashing by Liverpool a day earlier.

Shortly after the defeat Villas-Boas failed to confirm that Tottenham's big-name acquisitions during the transfer window were made with his blessing, but Ferdinand claims that the former Chelsea boss was in full agreement with the club's hierarchy over signings.

Speaking to US podcast Beyond the Pitch, the former Spurs marksman said: "Most of the signings were perhaps suggestions to him, but he agreed to those suggestions.

"The bottom line is he agreed to all of those signings. It wasn't a case that the players were brought in and he was told 'You have to make a team of these players', because if you're a manager and that happens, you're destined for the sack.

"From speaking to AVB, I understand he was happy that the players came to the club."

Only Real Madrid and Monaco splurged more than the North London outfit in the summer transfer window, with the likes of Paulinho, Christian Eriksen, Roberto Soldado and Erik Lamela among those to have arrived at White Hart Lane for sizable transfer fees.
