Mauricio Pochettino hints at Tottenham Hotspur exit

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino suggests that his future hinges on the outcome of transfer talks with chairman Daniel Levy next week.

Mauricio Pochettino has suggested that he may quit as Tottenham Hotspur manager if the club are unable to match his ambitions.

The 46-year-old revealed after the Lilywhites' 5-4 final-day win over Leicester City that he intends to hold talks with chairman Daniel Levy next week.

Pochettino, who has finished no lower than third in the Premier League in the last three seasons, believes that financial support is required if Spurs are to push on and win some silverware in 2018-19.

Asked if he can guarantee that he will be the man to lead Tottenham into a new era, with their move to a new 61,000-capacity ground just four months away, the former Southampton and Espanyol boss hinted that his future is tied into the outcome of discussions with Levy.

"Today, 100% I feel I am here, but it is important to think that tomorrow all can change, because it's not in my hands. It's not my decision to be here or not," he told reporters. "I depend on my bosses, and it is healthy for myself, the club, and the fans to think you lose your job tomorrow.

"You need to give your best every day and work with these fears that you can lose your job if you're not professional. Our fans need to know what we are going to do to feel the reality of the club, and we need to tell the truth and create an expectation that we can achieve.

"You cannot create dreams thinking you are not going to achieve these dreams. Of course the ambition of the club will be to win and maybe now we are little bit disappointed and frustrated because we are close, but that is only the first step - to challenge with the big sides that invest more than us.

"We cannot think we are the most clever people in the world and we are going to win trophies and spend small money. We need to think that our reality is different, and our fans need to think and be happy and support us, because we are not this type of club that is going to invest crazy money."

Tottenham's 5-4 victory against Leicester equals the most goals scored in a competitive club match at Wembley Stadium, alongside Chelsea's 5-4 win against Manchester City in the 1986 Full Members Cup final.
