Tottenham Hotspur defender Danny Rose acknowledges that the comments he made in the national press earlier this week were 'ill-judged and mistimed'.

Tottenham Hotspur left-back Danny Rose has apologised for his "ill-judged" comments made in the national press earlier this week.

The England international appeared to criticise the club's pay structure and hit out at the lack of signings made by boss Mauricio Pochettino during the summer transfer window, while also confessing that he would be open to leaving if an offer was made.

Rose's public comments were met with widespread criticism in North London, leading to suggestions that he could be on his way to either Manchester United or Chelsea in the coming weeks.

In a statement released via his Base Soccer management agency, however, the 27-year-old has attempted to backtrack slightly on the remarks made to The Sun newspaper - an interview that he personally requested.

"Having had time to consider my actions, I acknowledge now that the timing and manner of what I said was ill-judged," the statement read. "My words were not meant to offend and for that I would to apologise to the chairman, manager, my teammates and the fans.

"I'd also like to wish the lads good luck ahead of Sunday's game against Newcastle."

Rose has been a part of the Tottenham setup for the past decade and is under contract until 2021.
