Tim Sherwood "respects" Tottenham Hotspur for deciding to sack him

Tim Sherwood says that he "thanks" Tottenham Hotspur for sacking him otherwise he would not be at "fantastic" Aston Villa.

Tim Sherwood has suggested that he has no hard feelings towards Tottenham Hotspur following their decision to sack him last year.

The 46-year-old took the managerial vacancy at Aston Villa in February, nine months after Spurs chairman Daniel Levy decided against handing the coach a permanent deal at White Hart Lane.

Sherwood was quoted this week as saying that the North London outfit lied to him about their intentions to speak to other managers, including Frank de Boer and then-Netherlands boss Louis van Gaal.

However, today, Sherwood has insisted that he still has a good relationship with Spurs and is grateful that they let him go as otherwise he would not be at Villa Park.

"I was pleased with what I did [at Spurs] but I respect the decision made by Daniel Levy and his board - they've been good for me," Sherwood said in today's press conference. "They only made that decision based on what they believe is best for the football club.

"I haven't got to agree with it. I just move on. I thank them for not being there now as it's the reason I am at this fantastic football club. It's all about what I can give to the side at Aston Villa at the weekend."

Sherwood's side will travel to London to take on Spurs this weekend.
