Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Toby Alderweireld has admitted that his side are lacking confidence following a run of just one win in their last five games across all competitions.
Spurs won their first three games under Jose Mourinho but have since won just three of their next eight, while they have conceded the first goal in each of their last five outings.
The club's defence has also only managed one clean sheet in their 12 games since Mourinho succeeded Mauricio Pochettino, and Alderweireld acknowledged that his side need a win to regain their self-belief.
"We started well with Jose and of course, results haven't gone our way in the last couple of games, but we have to work hard at these things. It's progress and a project that we have to consider. These things do take time," the Belgium international told Tottenham's matchday programme.
"We lack a little bit of confidence as well. If a result goes our way, we will make the steps that we need to take to go forward. In some moments, if it goes a little it more our way, then the confidence will come even more.
"At the moment, we are a little bit in the corner. For example, if you look at the second goal we conceded against Norwich. At that moment in the game, we were in a good period, we were putting them under pressure and only one team was going to win but then you concede an own goal like that and it changes the momentum. It's all about those moments.
"We know that we just have to work hard and the positives will come, but we also have to search for our own luck. We will work hard to improve, that is the key thing. Football is about fine details. We still see ourselves in a position where we can achieve anything that we want but we have to be positive, as a positive mindset will change a lot."
Tottenham currently sit fifth in the Premier League table, 28 points adrift of Saturday's opponents Liverpool.
