Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen has voiced his discontent at being used consistently as full-back cover, declaring that he would like to focus on honing his game in one position.
Vertonghen filled in at left-back for Spurs during last weekend's goalless draw with Everton at Goodison Park, with Danny Rose and Kyle Naughton both out injured.
The Belgian international has conceded that he would be much more comfortable sticking to his favoured central defensive role, admitting that he would prefer not to be called upon by Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas to switch positions.
He is quoted by The Sun as responding to a question about filling in at full-back: "I can play at left-back and I can help the team at times. But everyone knows I am not a left-back. It feels like that sometimes.
"Once there are injuries, I'm the first to fill in the gap. Sometimes it's better if you can play in only one position.
"You see that with other players. These guys specialise in one position and they can completely concentrate."
Vertonghen's display helped Spurs keep their seventh clean sheet of the season at Goodison Park, moving up to fourth in the table with 20 points from 10 matches.
