Tottenham Hotspur remain in the hunt for a Champions League place with a 4-1 win at struggling Bolton Wanderers.

Tottenham Hotspur have remained in the hunt for a Champions League place with a 4-1 win at Bolton Wanderers.

Meanwhile, the result has dealt a significant blow to Bolton's survival hopes.

After a strong start, Spurs' first meaningful opening came midway through the half when Adam Bogdan did well to block Rafael van der Vaart's rebound after the goalkeeper had fumbled Gareth Bale's drive.

Bale was in the thick of it again soon after, but the Welshman's pullback missed a queue of waiting teammates.

David Ngog nearly found a way through for Bolton as they struggled in attack. However, the striker's goal-bound effort was blocked by a solid Tottenham defence.

The visitors were rewarded for their pressure in the 36th minute when Modric's half-volley flew into the top corner past Bogdan.

Bolton began the second half in positive fashion, and they drew themselves level on 51 minutes through Nigel Reo-Coker.

However, two quick goals from the away side changed the complexion of the game.

Van der Vaart put Spurs back in the lead on the hour when he swept in Bale's pass before Emmanuel Adebayor tapped in following an incisive counter attack.

Adebayor added a fourth with 20 minutes to play after he had rounded Bogdan to slot home.

The win has kept Spurs fourth in the Premier League table, while Bolton remain in the relegation zone with just two games to play.
