Harry Kane netted a brace as Tottenham Hotspur recorded a 4-0 win over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park in the Premier League on Wednesday night.

Spurs entered the match off the back of a 2-0 home loss to Aston Villa on New Year's Day, but a strong performance in the capital saw the visitors reignite their top-four challenge.

Kane netted twice early in the second half before Matt Doherty and Son Heung-min registered, and the result has seen Antonio Conte's side move to within two points of fourth-placed Manchester United in the table, while Palace remain in 11th position on 22 points.

Bryan Gil had an effort flicked wide of the Palace goal in the fourth minute of the contest, and the attacker then brought a save from Eagles goalkeeper Vicente Guaita three minutes later, having worked some space outside the box before attempting to pick out the top corner.

Spurs had another opportunity in the 12th minute when Doherty broke into the Palace box before floating a cross towards the head of Gil, but the Spaniard just failed to make contact.

Kane had a half-chance in the 25th minute when Doherty floated a cross into the home side's penalty area, but the England captain's header was never threatening to trouble Guaita.

Palace's first clear opportunity came in the 27th minute when Wilfried Zaha worked the ball into Jordan Ayew inside the Spurs box, but the forward's low effort was well saved by Hugo Lloris.

Joachim Andersen then came close with a brilliant strike in the 31st minute, with the ball swerving just wide of Lloris's post, before Michael Olise had one deflected past the goal two minutes later.

Palace were the better side as the first period headed towards its latter stages, with Lloris having to keep out another effort from Andersen, which came from a corner, but the two sides entered the break at 0-0.

Spurs made the breakthrough in the early stages of the second half, with Kane heading a deep cross from Ivan Perisic into the back of the Palace goal from close range.

Cheick Doucoure fired high of the Tottenham goal in the 52nd minute after smart work from Ayew, but the visitors then doubled their advantage shortly after, with Kane netting his second of the match.

The 29-year-old collected a pass from Gil inside the Palace box before picking out the bottom corner with a stunning effort.

Son had a golden chance to make it 3-0 in the 67th minute, but Guaita was on hand to make a brilliant save, with Palace just about remaining in the contest.

Spurs did have their third shortly after, with Doherty finding the bottom corner after a deflected cross from Son had fallen kindly for the wing-back inside the Palace box.

Son then made it 4-0 to the North London club, with the South Korea international finding the back of the net with a smart finish after being released by Kane.

Lloris did well to keep out a strike from Ayew 10 minutes from time, but it was a poor second-half performance from Palace, who struggled to deal with Tottenham's attacking firepower.
