Tottenham Hotspur fight back from 1-0 down to beat Sunderland at the Stadium of Light in the Premier League.

Tottenham Hotspur have come from behind to beat Sunderland in the Premier League.

Spurs had the first attack of the match when Kyle Naughton's attempted pass to Nacer Chadli was blocked and Aaron Lennon's cross was cleared.

Paulinho tried his luck from distance, but his long-range effort went wide of the post.

Steven Fletcher had the first real chance on goal, chasing a long ball over the top before dragging a shot wide.

Spurs raced up the other end and Lewis Holtby fired at goal, but Vito Mannone produced a decent save in the corner.

The chances were flowing now, even if accuracy was missing. This time, Jack Colback received the ball at an acute angle but then proceeded to smash his shot over the bar.

It was the away side's turn again minutes later. Lennon found Paulinho, who brought the ball down before seeing Mannone save his shot.

Perhaps the best of the lot fell to Chadli. The midfielder rose highest from a corner, only to head straight into the arms of Mannone.

The deadlock was broken 10 minutes before the break. Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris came and missed a cross, allowing Adam Johnson to drill the ball into an empty net.

However, Spurs were not behind for long. A free kick was headed back across goal by Chadli and Paulinho poked the ball past Mannone.

Andre Villas-Boas's team then completed the comeback at the start of the second half. Mousa Dembele burst into the box and delivered a cross that was turned in by Sunderland's John O'Shea.

The hosts needed a last-ditch tackle from Johnson to deny Holtby at the back post. The Spurs pressure continued, however, when Jermain Defoe's shot came back off the post.

Fletcher headed wide for the Black Cats after reaching a Sebastian Larsson cross, but Spurs were comfortable.

Gus Poyet's team appealed for a penalty when a corner appeared to hit Sandro's arm, but referee Lee Mason waved away their claims.

Defoe then hit the woodwork for the second time with a flick from Andros Townsend's cross as Spurs continued to press.
