Tottenham Hotspur have been held to a 1-1 draw by West Ham United in Thursday's Premier League clash at Wembley Stadium.

Spurs completely dominated the opening 70 minutes of the game but Pedro Obiang scored a stunning effort from distance to give the Hammers the lead with their first effort on goal.

However, six minutes from time, Son Heung-min scored an equally brilliant strike from 30 yards to earn a deserved share of the spoils for his side, who ended the contest with 31 shots on goal in comparison to just three from West Ham.

Mauricio Pochettino's remain in fifth place in the league table, but West Ham move into 15th position, two points above the relegation zone.

Spurs started the game brightly and could have opened the scoring when the ball fell invitingly for Davinson Sanchez inside the penalty area, but the defender's goalbound effort was superbly blocked by Declan Rice.

The home side continued to boss the game as West Ham remained content to defend on the edge of their own 18-yard box, but it took until the 28th minute for the next opportunity to arrive when Harry Kane saw his long-range strike pushed away from goal by Adrian.

Son was also denied by the goalkeeper as Spurs began to enjoy more joy in the final third, but the Hammers were doing an effective job in preventing Pochettino's side from applying any sustained pressure on goal.

Just before the break, Christian Eriksen saw a deflected strike tipped over by Adrian, but that was as close as Spurs came during the opening 45 minutes.

After the restart, it was more of the same as West Ham set out to frustrate Spurs, and it worked as only a header from Dele Alli came close to breaking the deadlock on the hour mark.

Soon afterwards, the midfielder was denied what appeared to be a clear penalty when he was clattered by Adrian when heading over the crossbar, but the referee waved away the home side's appeals.

Two minutes later, West Ham went in front with their first shot of the match. Obiang had little else on before deciding to shoot from all of 30 yards out, with his strike finding the top corner of Hugo Lloris's net via the inside of the post.

Spurs responded with two efforts from Kane which were smartly saved by Adrian but as the game entered the final 10 minutes, the home side looked short of ideas in the final third.

However, out of nowhere, Son equalised for Spurs with a 30-yard effort which found the top corner of Adrian's net, just as West Ham were preparing to introduce Andy Carroll to help defend set pieces.

Andre Ayew could have put West Ham back into the lead after dancing past Sanchez inside the area, but Lloris was able to divert the ball over the crossbar.

During four minutes of added-on time, West Ham were required to make a number of goal-saving blocks inside the penalty area, but David Moyes's side held firm to extend their unbeaten run in the top flight to three games.
