Tottenham Hotspur claim a 2-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion in Wednesday night's Premier League meeting at Wembley Stadium.

Tottenham Hotspur have gone up to fourth in the Premier League table thanks to Wednesday night's 2-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion at Wembley Stadium.

The hosts took the lead in the 40th minute through a somewhat lucky goal, Serge Aurier whipping a cross into the box which evaded everyone as it looped into the net, over the outstretched hand of Seagulls goalkeeper Mathew Ryan.

Tottenham's dominance continued after the restart and Harry Kane was denied by Ryan, stretching out his left boot to keep out the England international's deflected effort.

Tomer Hemed had Brighton's best chance after 70 minutes, but the Israeli striker's effort on the turn failed to trouble Spurs stopper Hugo Lloris.

Although Mauricio Pochettino's charges continued to dominate possession throughout the encounter, they failed to truly put their opponents to the sword, although they succeeded in killing the game off in the 87th minute.

Son Heung-min grabbed his side's second after getting the better of Davy Propper to connect with Christian Eriksen's free kick off the right flank and drive the ball in at the near post beyond Ryan.

The result sees Tottenham edge up into the Champions League spots, while Brighton now sit in 13th place.

Tottenham Hotspur (4-5-1): Lloris; Vertonghen, Aurier, Dier, Rose; Sissoko, Lamela (Alli 74'), Eriksen, Son (Davies 90'), Winks (Dembele 67'); Kane

Brighton & Hove Albion (4-5-1): Ryan; Bong, Dunk, Duffy, Schelotto; Knockaert, Kayal (Gross 78'), Stephens, Propper, Izquierdo (March 62'); Hemed (Murray 72')
