Metz president Bernard Serin has confirmed that a verbal agreement is in place for Tottenham Hotspur to sign Senegalese starlet Pape Sarr.
The 18-year-old burst onto the scene with Les Grenats last term and caught the eye of top clubs across Europe after scoring three goals in 22 Ligue 1 appearances.
Tottenham are understood to have agreed a six-year deal to sign Sarr from Metz, and the club's president Serin has confirmed that Spurs are closing in on the signing of the teenager, but a few details must be finalised first.
Speaking to Amazon, Serin said: "Nothing is signed, but I have a verbal agreement with the president of Tottenham. It is much more [than £12m], both on the fixed amount and the bonuses.
"Pape Matar must also be satisfied with the contract offered to him and this is not yet the case. There will be more discussions at the start of the week. If the transfer is to Tottenham, he will be loaned to FC Metz [for the season]."
Sarr has started all three of his side's Ligue 1 games so far this season and provided the assist for Habib Maiga's long-range effort against Reims in the weekend's draw. body check tags ::
