Tottenham Hotspur reportedly deem Cristian Romero to be 'untouchable', with the North London club not interested in entering into negotiations over a possible sale.
Romero's future has recently been the subject of speculation, with Real Madrid believed to be huge admirers of the Argentina international, and there had been suggestions of a potential release clause in his contract.
Reports from Argentina had claimed that there was a €65m (£54.4m) buy-out clause in his deal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
However, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, that is not the case, and Ange Postecoglou's side have signalled that the centre-back is not for sale under any circumstances.
Romano claims that there was interest from 'top clubs' over the summer, but he was deemed to be 'untouchable' by Tottenham and that remains the case heading towards the end of 2024.
Tottenham 'not interested' in Romero sale
The defender made the move to Tottenham from Atalanta BC in 2021, initially arriving on loan, before completing a permanent switch to the North London club in 2022.
Romero has featured on 106 occasions for Spurs in all competitions, scoring seven goals and registering one assist in the process.
The World Cup winner has again been a vital player for Tottenham this term, meanwhile, making eight appearances in all competitions, including seven outings in the Premier League.
Romero has another three years left to run on his contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and with suggestions of a release clause said to be wide of the mark, Spurs are in a strong position.
Real Madrid are set to sign a new centre-back in 2025
Real Madrid are difficult club to turn down, though, and it would be interesting to see what happens if Los Blancos actively pursue Romero next year.
The Spanish and European champions decided against signing a replacement for Nacho over the summer, but they are short in the middle of the defence, especially with David Alaba remaining on the sidelines due to a serious knee injury.
Alaba faces a battle to be back before the end of the year, and Real Madrid desperately need another body in the middle of their defence, especially as Jesus Vallejo is surplus to requirements.
Valencia's Yarek Gasiorowski is believed to be a leading target for Carlo Ancelotti's side, although the 19-year-old would be a long-term investment in that area of the field, and he could potentially arrive alongside a more established centre-back. body check tags ::
