Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly identified Schalke 04's Benedikt Howedes as a possible solution to their defensive problems ahead of the summer transfer window.
Despite only recently seeing their Champions League hopes fade, Spurs have been one of the worst defensive teams in the Premier League this season, with only four other teams conceding more goals than the North Londoners.
According to The Mirror, improving their defence is a priority for Mauricio Pochettino, and the club are considering tabling a £13m offer for Howedes.
The 27-year-old can play in the centre of defence or at right-back, and with just two years remaining on his current deal, Spurs could be ready to move with Schalke set to miss out on a spot in the Champions League.
Recent reports have suggested that Spurs are also close to securing a deal for FC Koln's Kevin Wimmer.
