Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly reached a full agreement with Sporting Lisbon to sign Pedro Porro.

The North Londoners have been strongly linked with the 22-year-old throughout the January transfer window, with Antonio Conte keen to strengthen his options in the right wing-back department.

Portuguese giants Sporting have continuously insisted that they will not entertain any offers below Porro's €45m (£39.5m) release clause.

There appeared to be fears that the deal would collapse after Sporting reneged on the terms that they verbally agreed with Spurs.

Porro was allegedly told by Sporting president Frederico Varandas that he would be allowed to leave following Saturday's Taca da Liga final defeat against Porto.

Porro played the full 90 minutes in that match and was seen waving goodbye to the Sporting supporters, but the Spaniard was left "distraught" on Monday and missed training after discovering his move to North London had hit a major stumbling block.

However, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the transfer is back on and the deal is close to completion, with Tottenham agreeing to activate Porro's release clause.

Romano adds that Spurs have rescheduled medical tests for the defender which are due to take place on Tuesday, with the transfer to be finalised as soon as all the necessary paperwork is completed.

Porro is poised to become Tottenham's second signing of the January window after the arrival of attacker Arnaut Danjuma, who has joined the club on loan from Villarreal for the rest of the season.

After failing to make a single appearance for Manchester City during a three-year spell at the Etihad Stadium, Porro joined Sporting in August 2020 on a two-year loan deal before making his move permanent the following year.

Porro has since established himself as a key cog in Ruben Amorim's machine, recording 12 goals and 20 assists in 98 appearances across all competitions.

Tottenham currently have Emerson Royal, Matt Doherty and Djed Spence battling for the right wing-back role in Conte's side, although the latter is allegedly on the verge of leaving the club on a temporary basis.

According to journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Spence – who has featured just six times for Spurs this season – has personally chosen to join Ligue 1 side Rennes on loan for the remainder of the 2022-23 campaign. body check tags ::
