Tottenham Hotspur haven't given up hope of signing Jan Vertonghen after missing out on Champions League football.
The North London club will now play in the Europa League next season despite finishing fourth in the Premier League. They miss out after sixth-placed Chelsea beat Bayern Munich to win the Champions League on Saturday, to qualify for next season's competition.
Spurs now face the task of keeping hold of their best players and trying to bring in new men without the promise of Europe's elite competition.
However, the Ajax captain will reportedly hand in a transfer request in order to push through a move to White Hart Lane despite the Dutch club's qualification for the Champions League.
The two clubs have held talks but still haven't agreed on a transfer fee, with the Eredivisie champions believed to be holding out for £12m.
Spurs boss Harry Redknapp is planning more talks this week.
