Tottenham Hotspur will reportedly 'smash through their wage ceiling' in order to keep hold of record-breaking striker Harry Kane.

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly planning to break their notoriously-strict wage structure in order to keep hold of Harry Kane.

The 24-year-old set a new Premier League record of 39 goals scored in a calendar year on Boxing Day when he hit a hat-trick in Spurs' 5-2 rout of Southampton at Wembley.

Kane's remarkable form over the last few years has led to links with the elite clubs of Europe, including Real Madrid, who could offer him a significant increase on his current weekly wage of £110,000.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has consistently failed to match the wages on offer at rival Premier League clubs, with Kane's current salary dwarfed by the likes of Paul Pogba (£290,000 a week), Romelu Lukaku (£250,000) and Sergio Aguero (£220,000).

The England international is estimated to be 35th in the rankings of Premier League earners, surpassed even by Joe Hart (£120,000), Christian Benteke (£120,000), Wayne Rooney (£115,000) and Javier Hernandez (£115,000).

According to the Daily Mail, Levy is now prepared to redress the balance and "smash through their wage ceiling" when he revisits the striker's current contract at the end of the season.

Kane signed a new deal a year ago keeping him with Spurs until 2022.
