Tottenham Hotspur have edged closer to signing Metz midfielder Pape Sarr, according to a report.
Nuno Espirito Santo is eager to bolster his options in the middle of the park, particularly as Tanguy Ndombele has informed Spurs that he wishes to leave the club this summer.
After breaking into the Metz first team last season, 18-year-old Sarr has caught the eye of a number of clubs around Europe and his future has been the subject of intense speculation this summer.
Tottenham are believed to be leading the race for the Senegalese international, but The Athletic reports that a deal has not yet been agreed and that personal terms are not in place, meaning conversations remain ongoing with other clubs as well.
Metz value Sarr at around £27m, but the report states that they would be willing to let him leave for a lower price if they were able to get him back on loan for the rest of the season.
The youngster's preference would be to move to the Premier League, with Serie A side Atalanta BC also interested in his signature.
Sarr scored three goals in 22 Ligue 1 appearances last season. body check tags ::
