Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in signing Napoli goalkeeper Alex Meret in the summer transfer window.
Hugo Lloris has been Tottenham's long-standing number one, having made 445 appearances since joining the North London club in 2012.
Despite missing several games this season due to injury, the Frenchman has still featured in 29 competitive matches this term, keeping nine clean sheets.
However, with Lloris in the final 18 months of his contract, his long-term future at the club is shrouded in uncertainty.
The 36-year-old is entering the twilight of his career, and Tottenham appear to be making plans for a potential replacement.
According to Napoli Calcio Live, Tottenham have identified Meret as one of their summer targets.
The report claims that Spurs want to make Meret their number-one goalkeeper, which would reduce Lloris to a backup role.
The 26-year-old has established himself as Napoli's first-choice goalkeeper, following the departure of David Ospina last summer.
Meret has played 28 of Napoli's 29 league games this season, keeping 13 clean sheets this season to help his side move 16 points clear at the top of the Serie A table.
The Napoli stopper has a contract until June 2024, but the Italian club have the option to extend his deal by a further year.
As a result, the Serie A leaders will be in a fairly strong position should negotiations take place with potential buyers.
If they do decide to sanction a sale then the Partenopei will reportedly look to receive a fee in excess of £40m.
The reported asking price would not put off Tottenham, who are determined to sign the goalkeeper in the summer transfer window.
Meret is currently preparing for the first leg of Napoli's Champions League quarter-final against AC Milan, which takes place at San Siro on Wednesday evening.
The Italian has featured in all eight of the club's Champions League games this season, keeping four clean sheets. body check tags ::
