Tottenham Hotspur 'plotting double swoop for Kilmarnock wonderkids'

Tottenham Hotspur reportedly plot summer moves for Kilmarnock teenage duo David Watson and Ben Brannan, the latter of whom is on trial with the Lilywhites.

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly considering a double swoop for highly-rated Kilmarnock teenagers David Watson and Ben Brannan during the summer transfer window.

Eighteen-year-old midfielder Watson is starting to make waves in the first team during the latter stages of the Scottish Premiership season, starting each of their last three matches.

The 2005-born Scotsman has already made seven first-team appearances for Kilmarnock, while demonstrating his versatility by playing in a variety of central roles.

Watson has been deployed as a defensive and attacking midfielder as well as a number eight, and he played key roles in recent clashes with St Johnstone and Hearts, where Kilmarnock took four points from six on offer.

Kilmarnock only have Watson under contract until the summer of 2024, though, and The Sun claims that Tottenham have been alerted to his breakthrough.

Spurs could reportedly try to take the 18-year-old down to London for training as early as this week, and he would continue developing in their academy ranks before a first-team breakthrough.

As well as Watson, Tottenham are also said to be on the verge of sealing a deal for fellow midfielder Ben Brannan, who is also regarded as a top prospect for the future.

Unlike Watson, 16-year-old Brannan is yet to make his first-team debut for Kilmarnock, and Derek McInnes's side have not yet agreed a maiden professional contract with the midfielder.

As a result, Kilmarnock would be in line for compensation if Tottenham sign Brannan, who is already thought to be undertaking trials after Kilmarnock allowed him to travel to North London.

Also capable of playing as a right-back, Brannan has earned three caps for Scotland at Under-16 level, including in a 3-0 defeat to England back in February.

Tottenham are currently working with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Pape Sarr and Oliver Skipp as their only fit midfield options, as Yves Bissouma and Rodrigo Bentancur recover from ankle and knee operations respectively.

Cristian Stellini's side will be working without Bentancur until at least September and potentially up until November, which could see the Lilywhites enter the market for a new senior midfielder this summer.

Atletico Madrid's Rodrigo de Paul has supposedly emerged as a target for the North London club, who have also taken a liking to Leicester City playmaker James Maddison.

Spurs overcame Brighton & Hove Albion 2-1 at the weekend to remain fifth in the Premier League table ahead of the visit of relegation-threatened Bournemouth on Saturday. body check tags ::
