Christian Eriksen could reportedly see a proposed January move to Real Madrid fall through due to the form of Uruguay midfielder Federico Valverde.
The Denmark international continues to be linked with a move to Madrid as he heads for the final six months of his Tottenham Hotspur contract.
However, according to The Sun, the attacker's dream switch to the Bernabeu could be scuppered by the form of Valverde, who has made seven first-team appearances for Los Blancos this season.
The report claims that the 21-year-old is viewed by Madrid as the natural successor to Luka Modric, and the Spanish giants are considering snubbing Eriksen so that Valverde can continue his development.
Zinedine Zidane's side have been linked with a cut-price move for Eriksen during the January transfer window, although they could also look to agree a pre-contract with the unsettled 27-year-old ahead of a free transfer.
Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Juventus are also all believed to be closely monitoring developments surrounding the Tottenham playmaker, who has just one club goal to his name this season.
