Standard Liege are reportedly giving consideration to making moves for Reading attacker Yakou Meite and Rotherham United forward Chiedoze Ogbene.

On the back of enduring a disappointing 2021-22, where they finished 14th in Belgium's top flight, the Reds have fared considerably better during the current campaign.

As it stands, Ronny Deila's side occupy seventh spot in the standings, two points ahead of ninth position with a game in hand as they bid to make the end-of-season playoffs.

Providing that they continue on their current trajectory, Standard Liege will become an increasingly attractive option for their targets during the next transfer window.

According to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, the likes of Meite and Ogbene could each be approached over the coming weeks.

With the duo out of contract at their respective clubs at the end of the season, they are in a position to hold discussions with foreign teams.

Meite has spent the last seven years contracted to Reading, currently nearing the end of his sixth season with a campaign having been spent at French side Sochaux.

The Ivory Coast international has been one of the Royals' most valuable players in recent times, contributing 46 goals and eight assists from 162 appearances in all competitions.

While injuries have led to Meite dropping down the pecking order since the start of 2021-22, he has still been used on 24 occasions in the Championship this season.

Meanwhile, Ogbene has established himself as one of Rotherham's key men, chipping in with 13 goals and 21 assists during 128 matches for the Millers.

The progression of the 25-year-old has led to him becoming a regular part of the Republic of Ireland squad, with four strikes coming from his 15 caps.

The report suggests that one or both of the players may soon be given the chance to move to the continent, although other offers are expected to come from elsewhere.

Reading are not in a position to offer fresh or improved terms to Meite as they face the likelihood of a six-point deduction in the Championship for financial breaches. body check tags ::
