Stoke City manager Mark Hughes has revealed that he made an enquiry for Gerard Deulofeu before the Barcelona youngster joined Everton on loan.
The 19-year-old made his first Premier League start for the Toffees today and scored the opening goal in a commanding 4-0 win over the Potters at Goodison Park.
"We were aware of him, we knew he was a talent and he is obviously a talent," the Welshman told reporters.
"We made an enquiry ourselves but unfortunately he came here and not to Stoke.
"He is a very talented boy and I am sure it will only be a loan deal, I am sure Barcelona will keep hold of that asset."
Today's result leaves Stoke 16th in the Premier League.
