Jermain Defoe has revealed that he is itching to kick-start his Premier League career once more after reportedly passing a medical with Sunderland.
The 32-year-old is thought to be nearing a switch to the Black Cats following a year-long spell in Canada with MLS outfit Toronto, with Jozy Altidore understood to be heading the other way.
Defoe, who has netted 124 Premier League goals, is understood to be signing on for a reported £14m, and the former Tottenham Hotspur hitman is convinced that he still has what it takes for England's top flight.
"I felt so sharp. All that hard work has paid off. I can't wait to start scoring goals for Sunderland," Defoe told The Mirror.
"Everybody knows how much I love English football and I still feel that I have a lot to offer.
"People might look at my age, but I have always looked after myself and I hope I can show that with my performances."
He could make his Sunderland debut against Spurs should he complete the switch.
Gus Poyet's side sit just one point clear of the relegation zone in 16th.
