Sunderland have confirmed they have parted company with director of football Roberto De Fanti.
Reports emerged earlier today claiming that Black Cats owner Ellis Short had decided to cut ties with the businessman midway through the season.
De Fanti, who arrived at the Premier League outfit in June last year, oversaw the capture of 14 new players in the summer transfer window under former boss Paolo Di Canio.
A statement on the club's official website said: "Sunderland AFC has announced that the club has parted company with director of football Roberto De Fanti. The club would like to place on record its thanks to Roberto and wishes him well for the future."
Reports have claimed that the decision was made without the knowledge of current head coach Gus Poyet.
